High Type Holstein Alliance Gains Stronger UK Proof With Doubling Of Daughter Numbers

The addition of 125 daughters has resulted in significant increases in the UK proof for high type Holstein Alliance in the December 2011 rankings announced this week, moving his figures closer to what has for some time been an impressive international proof.

A Canyon Breeze Allen son, Alliance is from the great Laurie Sheik Canadian cow family, out of a Comestar Lee daughter of Comestar Lausan Black VG87. His latest UK proof, now based on 242 milking daughters, shows significant improvements across the board, with his PLI up from £77 PLI to £95 PLI, his Type Merit up from +2.15 to +2.41, and his milk production up 90kg to 389kg. Lifespan has also increased significantly for Alliance, up from +0.2 to +0.3.

“This significantly improved proof is consistent with the reports we are receiving from the field,” says Bullsemen.com managing director Nick Kirby. “Alliance is certainly delivering progeny to match his outstanding linear proof, with his 21 classified daughters in the first half of 2011 averaging 2.9 points higher than their dams according to Holstein UK. With an average type classification score of 82.2 (71.4% being higher than their dams), this ranked Alliance ahead of any other Holstein bull in the category for bulls with 20-50 new classified daughters in that period.

“Breeders can be confident that Alliance is doing an excellent job for type in the UK,” comments Bullsemen.com managing director Nick Kirby. “He illustrates Canadian Holstein breeding at its very best. Alliance has no weaknesses and will suit dairy farmers wanting size, strength and style as well as excellent functional traits and good production.”

Alliance is currently on offer from Bullsemen.com at £16.50/straw.

High Ranking Goldwyn Son Guarini Strengthens Type Merit Whilst Maintaining High PLI

High ranking Braedale Goldwyn son Guarini is one of the highlights of the December 2011 Holstein bull proof run with a significant improvement in his Type Merit (up 0.22 points to 2.36) alongside an impressive £201 PLI that reflects great overall stability in his figures since his first appearance in April this year. With his milk production now at +505 kg, he is the only bull available to UK producers that exceeds 500 kg milk, £200 PLI and +2.3 Type Merit.

Guarini, with a wider pedigree that includes Oman as his dam’s sire and the Jocko Besne son Junker, is +2.6 Daughter Fertility (up 0.7), -23% Somatic Cell Count, +0.2 Lifespan and +2.42 Mammary (up 0.18), exhibiting a spectacular combination of type, production and functionality.

Whilst Guarini only had his first progeny proof in April 2011, he is already well-known in Germany as one of the highest genomic proof Holsteins available. From the Rinderzuchtverband Berlin-Brandenburg / RBB AI stud area – well known for the bull Laudan – Guarini now has over 142 daughters in his proof and has progeny that are attracting very positive reviews.

“Udder quality appears to be a particular strength of Guarini’s daughters,” reports Nick Kirby, managing director of the bull’s UK agent Bullsemen.com. “Of those seen on a recent tour in Germany, first and second lactation daughters had high, wide rear udders with a strong central ligament, and really snugly attached fore udders with ideal teat placement.

“Goldwyn’s can be extremely dairy and narrow, but with Guarini’s pedigree coming from an Oman dam and a Jester Granddam, it is not surprising that his daughters exhibit good chest width with outstanding rump width at the pins. Good body depth and an open rib structure is also evident in his progeny, and it is noticeable how second calvers tend to mature in this regard.”

Logan’s full brother Co-op Oman LOYDIE is also in the top 10 for £PLI in the latest rankings and available as sexed semen.

Loydie has significant advantages over many other Oman sons, producing cows with excellent chest width and body depth and good rump width. At £217 PLI and with milk production of +472kg, +0.11 and +0.1 fat and protein percentages respectively, +1.4 daughter fertility, +0.2 lifespan, and exceptional calving ease, Loydie has all the attributes for all round herd improvement. First Gibor Daughter Reaches Lifetime Production Of 100,000 Kgs

Gibor - Gibbon x EX 90 Sunnyboy x EX 90 Travis x EX 90 Astro Elevation makes Holstein history

One of Gibor's first daughters has produced more than 100,000 kg. Daughter Emma is housed at a breeding farm in Bad Ems, Germany.

Gibor Daughter Emma with Ferdinand Family

Emma who holds the title "first 100,000 kg Gibor Daughter" was born on August 7th 1999. She is from the test period of Gibor and calved for the first time at the age of 28 months. Because of her outstanding appearance she was directly part of the progeny group of the daughters in Oldenburg at the German Holstein Show.

She produced about 7,500 kgs milk with good components in her first lactation. 2003 - 14 months later - she calved for the second time and immediately surpassed 10,000 kgs. Afterwards Emma gave birth to a healthy calf every year and increased her yield continuously to more than 14,000 kg in the fifth lactation and 13,600 kgs each in the sixth, seventh and eighth lactation. Emma gave birth to her ninth calf on the 21st August 2011 and she is still in good health.

At the age of 14 Gibor is still producing well and semen is available from Bullsemen.com at only £17.50
